Handwriting Analysis – Origins and Importance

Handwriting analysis is an ancient tool which helps you to decipher the personality of a person via pen strokes. Every person when learning to write, learns to write individual letters consciously. After he has learnt to write, he can write automatically even if he is talking, watching T.V, etc. In other words, his subconscious mind takes over the writing part from his conscious mind. This is very much like learning to drive a car consciously and then having the ability to drive without any conscious effort even if you are talking to the passengers. Thus, we can say that handwriting is brainwriting. Through handwriting analysis, we can know a person better.

A Brief History of Handwriting Analysis

Camillo Baldo is the accredited father of handwriting analysis. He wrote the first book on the subject in 1662. Back to the 99 A.D., Roman historian Suetonius made a study of Emperor Augustus’ personality from his handwriting. Pioneering work has also been done by two French priests, Abbe Flandrin and Abbe Gene Hippolyte Michon. These two established some basic rules for determining specific characteristics. They published two books in 1871 and 1878, and created the term ‘graphology’.

In the 19th century, Robert Browning and his wife Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote a book Dark Words on White Paper Bare the Soul. During the same time, a Swiss psychiatrist, Max Pulver, introduced the importance of unconscious drives in writing. In the 20th century, companies in France and Israel started using handwriting analysis as a part of the job screening process.

Bart Baggett, President and founder of Handwriting University International started this community in 1996 and till now has been imparting knowledge and certification courses in handwriting analysis for over two decades. It is the only institution which to date has created a system which allows any aspirant to create a full time career in handwriting analysis.

Applications of Handwriting Analysis

  1. Personal Transformation

Through handwriting analysis, one can understand the strengths and weaknesses of a person accurately. This is very crucial if you want to take life to the next level of excellence. For that to happen, a thorough SWOT analysis has to be done to overcome the stumbling blocks in the personality. The way to do this is through Graphotherapy.

2. Hiring and Recruitment

Handwriting analysis can work wonders in the field of personnel selection. Normally when many candidates are applying for a specific position, the interviewer will conduct several operational rounds to understand how adept the candidate is for the role. However, if you have his handwriting also analysed you can understand the person at a subconscious level. Because a lot many things like integrity, determination, social aptitude, etc. can be seen in the writing. Often times, we have encountered situations where the employee was good at his work but it was his behavioral issues that caused the trouble. Knowing these things beforehand can save an employer from any nasty surprises.

3. Love & Relationships

Relationships have become fragile in today’s times. Blame it on a fast-paced life or not getting the emotional validation when it is due. Or the constant spiral of dating apps. The list is endless. With constant relationship hopping, the trust deficit widens and we get averse to the idea of being vulnerable in love. This is frightfully common in today’s world. Handwriting analysis is a boon in navigating through the complex maze of relationships and finding the right partner and avoiding the wrong ones.

4. Childhood Development

Childhood is an amazing time of our lives. It is a time of spontaneous creativity and unconditional joy. Our adulthood to a large extent is decided by the quality of our childhood. As a result, if we can get the right personality molded in a child, he/she will grow up to become an amazing adult minus all the traumatic, painful baggage so many of us keep carrying into later years. Handwriting analysis can help us in identifying the core personality of a child and eradicate behavioral issues in the primary stages itself.

Apart from these applications mentioned, there are other benefits also when it comes to handwriting analysis. I sincerely feel that in this digital age, the time has come for the world to reap the healing benefits of handwriting analysis and graphotherapy.
